Even though the reasoning behind the name of the league is quite clear to everyone, purely because of geography, we have to admit that we have leaned more on the etymology of the Balkan name and its connection to nature of the Balkan peninsula.

For those who may not know, Balkan, before it got used to the name Balkan, bore another name: “Haemus”, which pretty much had the same meaning: “mountain ridge” and “chain of wooded mountains”. History wrote many stories, languages and times changed, but one thing remained the same.

We found that heritage adequate to the way we want to start our story. With mountains.

For those of you who know American football, you also know that every play starts from the Center. The first mountain. Center is the one who snaps the ball to the Quarterback and moves into defensive set of moves. He is not alone in that role. From both sides he has a Guard and a Tackle, four more big guys that do the same. Protect the offense, hide the strategy, make the way for the play and stay in the shadow of every good offense.

They are called Offensive Linemen.

Everything in this game revolves around them. Offense is as good as it can use its mountains. Defense is as good as its players are not afraid of conquering them. That is why we have mountains in our emblem. That is why we are called Balkan Football league. A place where mountains collide!

We find it only fair if we continue building our identity in such manner, so before any other big play or a good player is recognized, we will make sure you remember where it all started.
